Historical documents that form the constitutional, legal, legislative, judicial, and administrative basis of Maryland's government. Online access enables users to research such topics as Maryland's constitutions and constitutional conventions' proceedings, session laws, proceedings of the General Assembly, governors' papers, and military records.

Archives UM: Encoded Archival Description at the University of Maryland

ArchivesUM is a portal to help researchers locate materials described in finding aids to archival and manuscript collections at the University of Maryland Libraries. Through ArchivesUM, researchers may browse subject categories, such as 'Family History' or 'History, 1820-1965' or geographical locations, such as 'Baltimore.'

The online portion of the Maryland Archives is certainly hard to wade through. But it's well worth the effort for family history work, as there are some wonderful sets of data here. Some, like 'Early Settlers' date back to the 1600s.

Documenting the American South

Sponsored by the University Library of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, this is a a digital publishing initiative that provides Internet access to texts, images, and audio files related to southern history, literature, and culture. Currently DocSouth includes sixteen thematic collections of books, diaries, posters, artifacts, letters, oral history interviews, and songs.
