Access Genealogy - The Choctaw of Bayou Lacomb
From December 1908 until April 1909, the writer was in lower Louisiana. During this period frequent visits were made to the few Choctaw still living near Bayou Lacomb in the same parish. The notes obtained as a result of those visits are now presented on this website.

Dictionary of Louisiana Biography
The Dictionary of Louisiana Biography is a three-volume set of books (volume I & II were published in 1988 and a supplement was published in 1998), which was a collaboration between the Louisiana Historical Association and the Center for Louisiana Studies at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. It is the most comprehensive biographical undertaking every assembled for the state of Louisiana. It is included here in its original form.

Free People of Color in Louisiana | Louisiana Digital Library FREE
Digitized collections include entire collections of papers from families or individuals that were free people of color. Many of these extend, chronologically, beyond the end of slavery. Being a free person of color ceased to have legal meaning after emancipation and the passage of the 13th Amendment, but having been a member of that class continued to have cultural, racial, social, economic, and political implications for those who had been free people of color in the antebellum period, and for generations of their descendants.
