The Jewish Genealogical Society of Illinois (JGSI) is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping members collect, preserve, and perpetuate the records and history of their ancestors. We serve as a resource for the worldwide community to research their Chicago area Jewish roots. We conduct monthly meetings with speakers on a wide range of topics. We provide access to research materials in our library, publish a newsletter - Morasha - maintain an online searchable death index.

This group was started by David L. Habegger in 1995 as a way to bring together genealogists working on Anabaptist families. The group started out with the nickname O.M.I.I. as the participants were primarily from Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Illinois. Over the years the group has continued to expand and now has members from dozens of states and multiple countries.
