There's something not quite right when the online state archives for Illinois can only rustle up 42 documents on Abraham Lincoln. Still, the archives have some valuable collections for family history research. There are muster rolls here from the Civil War, town directories, old newspaper archives, and a scary looking clown.

F. M. Johnson Archives and Special Collection
From North Park University. This collection exists for the sole purpose of preserving and making available to researchers the historical records of the Evangelical Covenant Church. Founded in 1885 by Swedish immigrants, the Covenant values its rich heritage of churches, pastors, and lay people who have given the denomination its identity and who have carried out its mission. The collection includes books and serials, microfilmed newspapers and church records, files of local churches, pastors, missionaries, educators, and administrators.

Illinois Mennonite Historical and Genealogy Society
Includes a research library and Heritage Center located in Metamora, Illinois. The library collection began with the organizational meeting of IMHGS in 1969. Anabaptist history, records and stories from Mennonite and Amish families, congregations, and community life are the focus of the collection. It now includes encyclopedias and historical works, periodicals, family, county and congregational histories; indexes to ship passenger lists, census and marriage records on microfilm and microfiche, lists on CD ROMs and files of clippings, correspondence, fliers, pamphlets, and unpublished notes, letters and diaries.
