The progenitor of the FANCHER family in America was William FANCY/FANSHAW(Sr.) and his second wife Katherine. William FANCY/FANSHAW, Sr. was one of the original proprietors of Setauket, Brookhaven, Suffolk Co., New York, and the earliest record of him is found in the New Haven Colony in 1643. FANCY and FANCHER have been proven to be colonial spelling variants of the English FANSHAWE surname.
