The Genealogy of Some NIMLOS and SAUER Lines
The goal of my research has been to establish the parish in Western Europe from which the ancestors of myself and my wife (Carlene Linette Sauer) originated. Most of the people in this history emigrated to this country between 1843 and 1888. The exceptions are John S. Sproul (1811) and the Montgomery family (1806). In the Sauer line they came from Germany and Holland and in the Nimlos line from Norway, Scotland, England, and Sweden. All came either directly to Wisconsin or, in the case of Sproul and Montgomery they lived for a while in Pennsylvania and perhaps New Jersey and the Edwards family, which lived for a few years in Canada. In most cases I have identified three generations in Europe. Genealogies of various quality and completeness have been written about at least seven families (Blockwitz, Edwards, Craig, Miller, Scharf, Sproul, Montgomery, and Umbreit) and miscellaneous notes about others.
