The Lackawanna Historical Society was founded in 1886 as the Lackawanna Institute of History and Science. It is one of the oldest cultural institutions in the county. The Lackawanna Historical Society maintains an extensive collection of library resources for use by students, scholars, historians, and the community at large. The holdings include: vertical files, books and other published works, manuscripts, photographs, newspapers, maps, general scrapbooks, music scrapbooks, genealogical files, and oral histories.
