The Stockbridge Michigan area covers a large geographic area which includes parts of four Michigan counties: Ingham, Livingston, Jackson, and Washtenaw. Many small farming communities are included in the Stockbridge Michigan area: Gregory, Unadilla, Plainfield, Millville, Pinckney, Parkers Corners, Waterloo, Munith, Lyndon Center, Stockbridge, Hell, Bunker Hill, Fitchburg, Dansville, White Oak, and Pleasant Lake.

The museum, in the historic part of Ypsilanti, is in an old house with period furniture. The archives have a wide variety of collections related to people and places in Ypsilanti's history. YHS is sharing their photographs with the Digital Photo Archives Project at the University of Michigan. They publish the Ypsilanti Gleanings and Lost Ypsilanti, online and in print.
