The Kearny Medal and Kearny Cross (Facebook)

This page includes short vignettes about the recipients of the Kearny Medal (for officers) and Kearny Cross (for enlisted men). The Kearny Medal was issued in December, 1862 to more than 400 officers of the 1st Division, 3rd Corps, Army of the Potomac who served under their recently-deceased former commander, MajGen Philip Kearny. The medal's counterpart, the Kearny Cross, was first awarded about six months later to more than 400 privates and non-commissioned officers of the same division who were selected for gallantry in battle.w
