The Sporting News Baseball Players Contract Cards Collection
From the LA84 Foundation Digital Library. The collection provides an important primary source of information on more than 172,000 professional baseball players, in the minor and major leagues, as well as on approximately 10,000 umpires and executives. Beginning in 1886, the careers of these players, umpires were outlined on index cards and maintained over the next 105 years by clerks at the weekly sports newspaper The Sporting News (TSN). Sometime in the early 1990s, TSN computerized the current player records, eliminating the need to maintain the index cards.
