Brigham Young University - Idaho - Associate of Applied Science Family History Research
The associate degree in family history research provides students with an advanced understanding of family history research principles and practices. Students will learn advanced techniques, define a research problem, develop a research plan, gather information from documents, analyze evidence, and write conclusions. Students will use recognized professional standards and a variety of tools to complete research projects. They will be prepared to apply these research skills to various geographic specialty areas.

Genealogical Institute on Federal Records (Gen-Fed)
Gen-Fed, formerly The National Institute on Genealogical Research (NIGR), is held each summer at the National Archives in Washington, D.C., and College Park, Maryland, and is an intensive program offering on-site examination of federal records. Designed for experienced researchers, it is not an introduction to genealogy.

Formerly the Genealogical Research Institute of Pittsburgh. The GRIP Genealogy Institute provides comprehensive week-long instruction on a variety of genealogical topics. There are two GRIP programs, virtual and in-person options, which offer focused instruction in courses with eighteen class sessions taught by experts. This in-depth format offers students an immersive, high-level education designed to advance their research skills, in their choice of a course topic, focusing on methodology, genealogical records, geographic regions, or ethnic groups. Additional practicum experiences provide the student with an opportunity to test skills and advance their knowledge.

Institute of Genealogy & Historical Research (IGHR)
The Institute of Genealogy and Historical Research (IGHR) provides an educational forum for the discovery, critical evaluation, and use of genealogical sources and methodology through a week of intensive study led by nationally renowned genealogical educators. Students choose one course that lasts throughout the week. Topics range from a course for beginners to a variety of courses on specialized topics. IGHR is hosted by the Georgia Genealogical Society (beginning 2017) with courses and accommodations taking place at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel on the University of Georgia campus in historic Athens, Georgia. Begun in 1962 at Howard College (now Samford University) in Homewood, Alabama, this academically and professionally oriented institute is one of the oldest and most prominent genealogical institutes in the nation and regularly enrolls over 200 students from around the country.
