In these two modules, Tom Jones takes us through the process of citing our sources, whether for DNA or lineages. Each session follows a masterclass format. The first week of each paired module will consist of a lecture with examples and an exercise. The second week includes Tom's signature' live editing', and discussion session, reviewing attendee-produced material and applying the generalities learned in the previous week. Family History Academy - Using Gephi to Analyze & Visualize Family History and DNA Networks
Network exploration and visualization tools offer exciting possibilities for exploring ancestral connections and making sense of DNA matches. In this hands-on workshop with Kimberly Powell, we'll explore the basics of network analysis, including using network visualization software as a tool to help us explore relationships, connections, and clusters (networks, FAN clubs) in our family history and DNA data. Through short demos followed by implementation periods, we'll practice using the free, open-source Gephi software to create cluster networks from both documentary and DNA data. Sample data sets will be provided, so we have a common framework for exploration and discussion. The session will be recorded and available for two weeks so you can revisit and apply the same principles to your project and data.
