Sources

This index was originally prepared from the transcripts of Parish Registers made and published by the Isle of Man Family History Society. Subsequently it has been augmented by the work of other researchers such as Frances Coakley who have discovered previously unrecorded material or other sources such as Bishop's Transcripts.

Missing or partial names.

It should be noted that the entries for the Douglas Borough Cemetery are, to the best of my knowledge, records of internment in the cemetery and are NOT records of Cremation.

Names that are completely unreadable have been omitted as have burials of unknown persons.

Christian names are often not given, especially for very young children. These unnamed person have been grouped at the beginning of each surname section. The Registers sometimes give additional information that may aid in identifying these persons. The following abbreviations are used in such cases: " c/o" child of, " d/o" daughter of, " i/o" infant of, " ill" illegitimate (of), " s/o" son of, " w/o" wife of.

Internment Camps

Burials of identified internees in both World Wars have been extracted from the Parish Registers and assembled on a separate page. There are several burials at the Borough Cemetery which would appear to be World War II internees though they have not been identified as such. These burials have not been extracted.

Missing and Duplicate entries.

In the course of preparing this index to the transcripts published by the Isle of Man Family History Society, it has become obvious that not all deaths resulted in an entry in a Parish Register and that some deaths had been registered in more than one Parish Register.
