10 typescript and manuscript letters, signed, from John W. Dwight, President of the Dwight Farm and Land Company of North Dakota, to John C. Gauntlett concerning the sale of multiple lots in Jersey City, New Jersey, and Wisconsin, 1895 January 23-1900 February 5. Dwight notes the transferring of deeds and subsequent payment of taxes. Accompanied by manuscript letter, signed, from Jared T. Newman of the South Dakota Land Company to Gauntlett noting prices of available lands, 1901 July 5. There are also 2 typescript letters, signed, from George A. Poe, manager of the South Dakota Land Company, to Newman concerning Newman's commission on Gauntlett's property and Poe's desire to purchase Gauntlett's land in South Dakota, 1901 April 15 and October 30

The collection consists of 43 business letters written by Charles L. Hyde, 39 of which are addressed to O.D. Chester of Camden, Michigan. All of the correspondence deals with the real estate business in Pierre, South Dakota and Chester's investments in the city, with the recommendations of Hyde. Many of the letters are short notes stating that Hyde received payment from Chester, but others go into detail about the property available in Pierre. There is also some discussion of property taxes. Several of the letters have copies of Chester's reply to Hyde on verso of the letters. There is one letter by Omar Hollingsworth to O.D. Chester as well as two letters by Hyde to B.R. Alward, Camden, Michigan, and one letter by Hyde to William J. Sizemore, Charleston, Illinois

Path to Expansion: 2005-2014 In the decade from 2005 to 2015, the State Historical Society experienced a whirlwind of activity in all divisions. Immediately after the completion of the archives expansion, plans began for the expansion of the museum. With funding for planning authorized by the 2005 and 2007 Legislative Assemblies, Paaverud, foundation staff, former governors, and supporters for the expansion once again set out to locate funding sources. Shortly after this, with the discovery of a new system to extract a tremendous volume of oil from the Bakken Formation, North Dakota's economy recovered significantly. Oil taxes and increased revenue from other venues provided a healthier economic climate to raise the necessary funding for the expansion of the Heritage Center. With this increase in oil production and its related infrastructure, the State Historical Society saw a tremendous increase in the number of archaeological and environmental sites requiring impact statements.The ...
