Records include copies of annual and quarterly reports and account statements addressed to the California State Controller, certified by the County Auditor and dating from 1853-1866; a printed 1853 notice from the State Controller relating suggested new collection procedures; and 42 manuscript statements issued between 1862 and 1866 by the San Joaquin County Sheriff accounting for the collection of foreign miners' license taxes, with a statement of receipt from the County Treasurer. A miner's partially printed license stub, completed in manuscript and dated 1853 Sep 10, entitling the licensee, "Amam", to "labor in the Mines One Month" in exchange for $4.00, is the only reference to a specific miner's name in the collection.
