An autonomous government was formed in the Oregon Country in 1843.

The Oregon Territory was created in 1848.

On February 14, 1859, Oregon was admitted to the union as the 33rd state.

Oregon was inhabited by many indigenous Native American tribes before Western traders, explorers, and settlers arrived.

At 11,249 feet, Mount Hood, a stratovolcano, is the state's highest point.

The deepest lake in the U.S. is Crater Lake in Klamath County, formed by the collapse of the Mount Mazama volcano in the Crater Lake National Park.
