Tillie's Tales — a southern Illinois farm girl's 1930s diaries
From 1930 through 1939, my grandmother Bertille BRAND kept a journal of her daily life in the small farming community of Hecker, Illnois. Over the course of these ten years, she names countless births, marriages and deaths. Some names frequently cited are BIRKNER, EICHENSEER, GREGSON, REHEIS, MENG, GOEDDEL and many more. She mentions numerous localities as well in both Monroe and St. Clair Counties.
