Church of Ireland - Archive of the Month - Watchbook Presentation
In an exciting collaborative project with An Garda Síochána, Ireland’s national police force, which celebrates its 90th anniversary this year, the RCB Library is making available the content of the earliest surviving watch books in Ireland – from the parish of St John in Dublin – online for the first time. The records are comprised of two account books dating from 1724-1785 and seven registers dating from 1765 to 1780. They offer details of crimes committed in the area and the sentences handed down, as well as the names of constables and watchmen.
